Imagebeeld Edition

20x25 refers to the 8x10” format of the large view camera, as well as the dimensions of the photographs presented in the portfolios of this new collection. Each portfolio is the result of a close collaboration with an artist and/or photographer.

The 20x25 collection by Imagebeeld Edition complements the activities of Imagebeeld Production, founded by Jean-Paul Deridder in 2011, with the aim to support the creation and the knowledge of photographic and artistic works.

10 gelatin silver prints

My journey began in Los Angeles where I met up with Garry Winogrand and was his driver for a couple of days. His last Cadillac had just been stolen. The third, if I remember correctly. I had first met him in 1979. During a lunch with Henry Wessel in San Francisco, I asked if he knew where I could find Garry Winogrand. “Of course, no problem. Here is his phone number. Just call him,” he said. And the next day I spent a fantastic day with Garry in Los Angeles. He showed me his famous drawers with undeveloped films and gave me a box of about thirty prints to be published in a Swedish photography magazine I was working for. After these were published, I helped organize a small exhibition of his work at the Moderna museet in Stockholm. Afterwards the prints were returned by mail. Everything was much easier in those days. The friendship with Garry was a real door opener. I was welcomed everywhere. I met Robert Adams in Los Angeles while he was photographing for the book Los Angeles Spring. I also met William Eggleston in Memphis and Richard Benson in Newport. I had brought along my 8 x 10 camera. During my travels, I photographed in the daytime and developed the negatives in my motel room at night. I can assure you that it is wonderful to wake up in the morning seeing ten 8 x 10 negatives hanging on a string.
